On the 7th, Chung Kwan-jang beat GS Caltex 3-0 in the sixth round of the Dodram V-League Women’s Division in the 2023-24 season at Chungmu Gymnasium in Daejeon, eliminating the semi-playoff (P.O.) and cheering.
It is the first time in seven years that Chung will play in spring volleyball since the 2016-17 season. Chung’s team, which confirmed its entry into P.O. at home, hugged and shed tears of emotion.
On the other hand, however, captain Lee So-young, who struggled on the court, fell down with an ankle injury early in the second set and was carried off on a stretcher.
Afterwards, the club said in an official report, “As a result of two days of treatment on Friday and Saturday (8th~9th), I was diagnosed with a rupture in the ligament of the left ankle and needed some time for basic recovery such as initial fixation and rehabilitation,” adding, “I do not need surgery right away, and I will make a careful decision on my postseason trip to see if the player recovers.”
“Lee So-young was diagnosed with a hospital diagnosis and was diagnosed with about four weeks,” said Jeong Kwan-jang, who spoke to MHN Sports on the 13th. “In fact, it will be a little difficult to play in the postseason.”
“Lee So-young is also showing strong willingness to participate in spring volleyball for the first time in a long time, but neither the coach nor the coaching staff is considering excessive participation under the protection of players,” a team source said. “Currently, Lee is focusing only on recovery and rehabilitation. We wish her a speedy recovery.”
Considering that all postseason schedules will be completed on April 6, Lee So-young is expected to be virtually difficult to play in spring volleyball.
Lee So-young played as the center of the team’s defense this season, recording 43.8% receiving efficiency (fourth overall).
Meanwhile, Chung will play the second-ranked team in the regular league between Hyundai E&C and Heungkuk Life Insurance on the 22nd. The venue is the second-ranked home stadium in the regular league.
