Galtier and his son John Balovich Galtier were detained Friday morning for questioning.

After his son was released without charge, Galtier was referred to the prosecution office and will stand trial on December 15 in Nice on charges of psychological harassment and discrimination, prosecutor Xavier Bonohm tweeted.

If convicted, Galtier faces up to three years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros ($49,000).

Galtier, who is on his way out of PSG but is still under contract, has denied allegations that he made racist and anti-Muslim remarks when he took charge of French club Nice when the scandal erupted earlier this year.

RMC Sport and other French media released reports citing leaked emails from former football coach Julien Purnier to the owner, who accused Galtier of saying there were too many black and Muslim players in the squad.

Galtier said the accusations hurt his humanity “at the deepest level” and took legal action.

Bonhomme said a preliminary investigation was held at the time into “discrimination on the grounds of race or religious charges.” He said Nice police were searching and handling the club’s headquarters.

PSG Communications Director Julien Maynard said “serious charges” have been filed against Galtier and the club fully supports him.

RMC Sport said Fournier, who had been at odds with Galtier during his tenure at Nice, had written to sports director Dave Brailsford to inform him of the details of his conversation with the coach.

Ineos acquired the Southern Club in 2019, and named Galtier as manager after winning the Lille in 2021. He spent a season in Nice before joining PSG. Purnier left Nice in 2022 after spending more than a decade with the club.

Purnier reportedly said Galtier complained in August 2021 that there were too many black and Muslim players on the team, and that they did not reflect the city’s ethnographic profile. Purnier told local newspaper Nice-Matine that he was not responsible for the leaked documents.

Purnier previously told RMC that he would “never be allowed back into the locker room” if he explained why the PSG coach was behind their argument, citing serious problems with Galtier.
