San Francisco Giants catcher Lee Jung-hoo will take the surgery table. At a home game against Cincinnati on Tuesday, he seriously injured his left shoulder while playing defense. After combining doctors’ opinions, he has decided to undergo surgery.
“Lee will undergo surgery within two weeks. He will not be able to return during the 2024 season,” San Francisco said on Wednesday, announcing Lee’s out for the season.
Lee will finish his first season in the Major League after playing only 37 games. He has a batting average of 0.262 (145 at-bats for 38 hits). His on-base percentage of 0.310 with a slugging percentage of 0.331 became the result of his debut season in the big league.
He was injured as follows. With the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the first inning on Thursday, Lee jumped toward the fence to catch the homerun hit by opposing batter Jaymer Canderario, but collided strongly with the fence. After the collision, he complained of pain in his shoulder and finished the game by leaving the ground with his trainer.
The result of X-ray examination at the time of the injury was a dislocation. Afterwards, he underwent MRI and structural damage to his shoulder. Finally, he was advised to undergo a medical examination by Dr. Neal Elatrache of LA, but he was out for the season.
Dr. Neal Elatrache is one of the most famous doctors in the big leagues. In the past, Dr. Neal Elatrache also had surgery on his shoulder joint and his elbow.
As the shoulder part is large, recovery and rehabilitation take a long time. “Lee needs six months for rehabilitation,” San Francisco President Farhan Zaidi said. “The medical team was confident that Lee would make a full recovery after the surgery.”토토
Lee took the top stage by signing a six-year, $113 million contract with San Francisco in December last year. He signed the largest contract among fielders who advanced to the big leagues in Asia, and served as San Francisco’s No. 1 hitter early on. However, he ended his first year in vain due to injury.
