MLB Cubs-Cincinnati, 1 hour, 48 minutes…fastest finish since 2010

The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds played a “1 hour and 48 minutes” speed game.

The Cubs won 1-0 at home against the Reds in the 2024 Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, on Monday (Aug. 28).

Cubs starter Jamison Taion pitched seven innings of four-hit ball to earn the win, while Cincinnati starter Nick Martinez tossed eight innings of five-hit ball to earn the complete-game victory.

Behind the pitching struggles, the teams combined for just nine hits (five Cubs, four Cincinnati) and the game was completed in 1 hour and 48 minutes, making it the fastest MLB game since 2010.

The lone run came from the Cubs offense in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Nico Conner led off with a double to left field and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Pete Craw-Armstrong.

With runners at first and third, Miguel Aybar hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home Conner.

“The game was the fastest since June 3, 2010, when the Detroit Tigers played the Cleveland Indians (now the Guardians) in 1 hour and 44 minutes,” MLB.com reported.

The fastest MLB nine-inning game of all time is 51 minutes, set by the New York Giants and Philadelphia Phillies on September 30, 1919.

The 21st century record is 1 hour and 39 minutes. On April 16, 2005, the Chicago White Sox and Seattle Mariners finished the game in 1 hour and 39 minutes. 사설 토토사이트
