Tottenham are willing to swap cash for the Argentina international midfielder for an Aston Villa prospect. However, it is not certain that the deal will go through.
Argentine publication TyC Sport recently reported that Tottenham have made an offer of £19 million in cash and Giovani Lo Celso, 28, to Aston Villa for Jacob Ramsey, 23, and that the two clubs are close to reaching an agreement.
A move this summer seems like a no-brainer for Ross Celso, who has struggled for game time under Ange Postecoglou. What’s more, a reunion with Unai Emery, who he worked with at Villarreal, would be a satisfying move for him.
Lo Celso joined Tottenham on loan in the summer of 2019 before making the move permanent in January 2020. However, after the arrival of Antonio Conte, he was relegated to the bench and left on loan to Villarreal in 2022. Lo Celso was a regular in the Argentina national team, but never really found his feet at Spurs.
Tottenham are keen to cash in on the Argentine international, who is out of contract in the summer of 2025, in exchange for Aston Villa’s promising youngster Ramsey. It was reported last month that Aston Villa had already rejected a bid from Tottenham.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder is a product of Villa’s academy, where he joined at the age of six.
