Chuncheon City and Chuncheon Leisure and Taekwondo Organizing Committee announced on the 29th that the opening ceremony of the Chuncheon 2024 World Taekwondo Junior Championship will be held at Songam Sports Town Air Dome at 6 p.m. on the 30th.
The opening ceremony will be attended by Cho Jung-won, president of the World Taekwondo Federation (WT), Chuncheon Mayor Yuk Dong-han, Yang Jin-bang, president of the Korea Taekwondo Association, Heo Young, Korean Ambassador to Slovenia Yernei Müller, vice chairman of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and Finnish Olympic Committee President Taina Susilioto.
Following the opening ceremony, a ceremony to declare the establishment of the World Taekwondo Federation headquarters will be held at the reception hall within the venue.
Earlier, Chuncheon City hosted the headquarters of the World Taekwondo Federation and held a ceremony to declare its construction on the opening ceremony of the competition.
The competition will be held as a single event for junior competitions by weight class for six days until October 6.
A total of 1,613 athletes (980 athletes and 633 executives) from 129 countries will participate.
On this day, the organizing committee conducted an international referee training a day before the opening of the game and conducted a final preparation check for the tournament.

On the afternoon of October 3, the competition period, the “Korea Win-Win K-POP Concert” will be held at Songam Sports Town Auxiliary Stadium.

Legoland in Chuncheon will also hold an event to give visitors wearing taekwondo uniforms a 50% discount on admission fees for the success of the competition.
An official from the organizing committee said, “We expect Chuncheon to grow further and open up as a central city of Taekwondo in the world.”
Meanwhile, Chuncheon Mayor Yuk Dong-han held a meeting with YAWAR ABBAS, deputy director of the sports bureau in Manchester, the U.K., on his visit to the championship, and discussed ways to promote exchanges between the two cities, and decided to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including sports and culture.
