Ontario Lottery and Gaming Company (OLG) signed a 22-year Casino Operations and Services Agreement (COSA) with the Great Canadian Games Company and Brookfield Business Partner on Jan. 23. The two partners are expected to invest more than C$700 in facility upgrades. At an event hosted by Mysiogas of Scugo Island First Nation (MSIFN), which opened its first gaming hall in 1997, the two companies announced plans to expand the Great Blue Heron Casino. Under OLG’s gambling options modernization plan in Ontario, the two partners presented a draft that would include 20,000 square feet of table games and additional slot games.

Great Canadian Gaming, which runs Shorelines Slots in Kawartha Downs, will move its OLG slot machine from Kawartha Downs to the Great Blue Heron casino. As for non-gambling activities, the operator proposed building a 100-room hotel complex, a 500-seat entertainment center for live musical performances, and the two operators said they would not consider changing their names but would develop new marketing strategies to strengthen their presence in the market.
The entire remodeling project will begin this spring and be completed by the end of the year, but the Great Blue Heron is expected to continue to welcome customers despite the ongoing construction, which the industry sees as an ambitious remodeling project to revitalize the casino industry in the area.
