“Isildur1”

It was one of the most eagerly awaited match-ups in recent poker history, and last Sunday’s confrontation between Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu and Viktor “Isildur1” Blom in the SuperStar Showdown didn’t fail to astound.

The result, watched by thousands around the world, was a superlative victory for Isildur1, who beat Negreanu to the tune of $150,000 in 1,439 hands.

The original match-up was supposed to involve a four-table, 2,500-hand match at the $50/$100 No Limit Hold’em tables, with both players returning a week later for another 2,500 hands, carrying over their balances from the previous match for a total of 5,000 hands. The same rules applied, each player’s losses limited to their $150,000 challenge bankroll.

Unfortunately, for Negreanu, that money was soon in the virtual pocket of Blom in just over four hours’ play. The good news is that Negreanu already vowed to return on March 27 for a rematch, bringing another $150k to the table for 2,500 hands.

In round two of the showdown Negreanu came out ahead by $26,500. He was able to mount a furious comeback after Isildur1 was up $120,000 after just 1,300 hands.
