Kiwoom loses 7th straight, falls to last place

NC extended its winning streak to three games, sending Kiwoom into a seven-game losing streak.

NC won a 4-3 home game against Kiwoom in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Changwon NC Park on the 5th. Kim Sung-wook’s solo home run in the eighth inning was the game-winner.

NC, which has won three straight games, remained in fourth place with 47 wins, 43 losses and one tie. Ninth-ranked Kiwoom, which has lost seven straight, dropped to 41 W, 56 L, 3 T, and lost ground on 10th-ranked Samsung. Kiwoom (.423) has a four-run lead over Samsung (.419) in winning percentage, but is in danger of falling to the bottom of the table.

NC struck first in the first inning. Against Kiwoom starter Jang Jae-young, Park Min-woo doubled to right-center field on the first pitch and then singled to left field on the first pitch of the Seoho Railway to put runners on first and third with no outs. Park led off with a grounder to shortstop, then Jason Martin singled and Kwon Hee-dong doubled to left-center for a 3-0 lead.

In the third inning, Kiwoom fought back. Facing NC starter Shin Min-hyuk, Kim Jun-wan doubled to right-center field and Kim Hye-sung followed with a single to right. Ronnie Dawson then took a three-pitch changeup from Shin over the right field fence. It traveled 125 meters and tied the game. It was Dawson’s third home run of the season.

The score remained 3-3 until the seventh inning, when neither team scored another run. Kiwoom started Jang Jae-young with five innings of three-run ball before Lee Myung-jong and Moon Sung-hyun took over the sixth and seventh innings. NC also got off to a quality start with Shin Min-hyuk throwing six innings of three-run ball, followed by Ha Jun-young and Lim Jung-ho in the seventh and eighth.

NC broke the balance in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded, Kim Sung-wook drove a two-seam fastball over the left-center field wall for a solo home run after a seven-pitch battle with Kiwoom reliever Kim Sung-jin. It traveled 115 meters and was his fifth home run of the season. Kim Sung-wook finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

In the bottom of the ninth, Lee Yong-chan struck out the side on nine pitches to earn his 16th save of the season and preserve NC’s victory for the second straight day. Kiwoom lost the bullpen battle as Dawson went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, but was silenced by the rest of the bats. 먹튀검증
