Women’s professional basketball team Asan Woori Bank’s Park Ji-hyun 23 was selected as the No. 1 player in the 2023-2024 Women’s Professional Basketball All-Star Fan Vote held from the 6th to the 25th. Park Ji-hyun, who received a total of 32,639 votes, beat out prominent stars such as Bucheon Hana One Q Jihyun Shin 31,645 votes, Incheon Shinhan Bank’s Kim Sonia 31,346, Busan BNK Lee So-hee 33,24 and Woori Bank’s Kim Dan-bi 28,132.

“It didn’t feel real until the result of the vote came out. I didn’t expect much because there were many older sisters who were popular in the team,” Park said in an interview with the World Daily on Wednesday. “It’s more meaningful than anything because it’s an All-Star game for our fans,” Park said. “I’m grateful that we’re receiving a lot of love.”

Women’s professional basketball Woori Bank’s Park Ji-hyun topped the All-Star fan vote for the first time in her life. Park Ji-hyun dribbles in a game against KB Stars at Cheongju Gymnasium on the 25th.

It is the first time that Park Ji-hyun, who was born in 2000, ranked first in the All-Star fan voting. Park Ji-hyun, who was selected by Woori Bank as the No. 1 player in the first round of the 2018-2019 season’s rookie draft, won the Rookie of the Year award and established herself as a representative player of Korean women’s basketball. Since then, Park has continued to grow and shared the victory of Woori Bank with Kim Dan-bi, the team’s “veteran” last season, and when she harvested the bronze medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games in September, she showed great performance as a national team member. Park Ji-hyun is flying well this season as well. He played in all 15 games for an average of 36 minutes or more, scoring 16 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

At the halfway point of the season, Park Ji-hyun’s team Woori Bank tied with KB for the lead with 13 wins and 2 losses. In an away game against Cheongju KB on Christmas the previous day, Park lost 61-73, but Park struggled by scoring 22 points. “We have to do our best to play the upcoming games rather than watching the season for a long time,” Park said. “We have one game left before the break in the All-Star game. I’m sorry to lose the game against KB, but I want to finish the game well against BNK and prepare well during a short break to show fans how we play well. I hope we can win the league title as well.” Park said to fans visiting the All-Star Game, “In the league, there are some fans who come to the stadium with tension and play with the players in one mind. Instead of this tension and pressure, I hope you come and enjoy the game with high expectations. I will give you a lot of fun with the players so that you can repay the precious vote.”
